ST. LOUIS, Mo—The Divine Performing Arts Chinese Spectacular made its debut at the Touhill Performing Arts Center at the University of Missouri on April 30.

The Spectacular's portrayal of China's 5,000-year-old traditional culture Chinese touched the hearts of many overseas Chinese.

Peng Mingsheng, an agricultural biologist who immigrated to the US from Nanjing, China, ten years ago, attended the show with his son.

"Very Beautiful. The show was terrific," said Peng. "I feel very close to the show, somehow it brought me home."

Peng's favorite performance was the Chinese folk dance. He was also highly impressed with the background projection, especially in the opening scene, "Descent of the Celestial Kings."

"The king of all kings was projected on the screen coming down from heaven on a horse, it assimilated with the dancers performing on stage. The strong visual effect that was created made me feel as if I was part of the story and it was very touching."

He added that "the momentum was tremendous and the scenes were very real."

Peng said that the show was good for the younger Chinese generation living overseas because it is hard for these children to see the traditional Chinese culture.

"The Chinese Spectacular has a positive influence on young overseas Chinese in helping them to understand their culture."
